More Gideon

Tristan and I just don't take pictures of ourselves anymore. So here's Gideon. He went to a pirate party recently and had so much fun and thank you to the party givers!
He also discovered bubbles. Loves them!

When it Rains it Pours...and then It Freezes and Leaks Into Your Kitchen and Floods Your Floor and Causes Major Stress

As a welcome home, Oklahoma blasted us with freezing winds from the north. We were lucky enough to not have our pipes burst. But they did freeze and they did flood our kitchen. :(

I was really hoping for a new kitchen covered by insurance...our kitchen was gutted, but nothing was ruined but the floor. I guess that's really good in the end. New floor for us!!
We did find this lovely linoleum...man, wish I could have kept that!!

But really, 2 going-on-3 weeks of no kitchen is a real pain in the end.
Poor Gideon has to live in his pack 'n play because his new favorite flavor is "pieces of carpet". Until the house is put back in order.

Christmas Post a Month Late

Finally our Christmas pictures. Enjoy!

Gideon was finally rewarded with some ornaments from the tree after he'd been drooling over them for days. Literally.

Our quick, FREEZING, trip to Temple Square.

My first gift Christmas morning...a stinky little diaper.

No concept of stockings yet...which was good. It was almost empty, so he didn't miss out on much.

Tristan trying out his not-quite-the-right-size ear warmer.

A surprise necklace from Tristan...he MADE it!!

"YAY!!! indoor jungle gym!!!!"

Discovering snow for the first time.

I love how he props up his feet when he's snacking.

Please Enjoy Your Flight

Thank you for traveling GideonAir. Before takeoff we will go over a few safety measures.

If you would like to follow along, there are safety booklets in the pocket in front of you.

Please stow all carry on baggage in the overhead compartments. The cuter the baggage, the better.

Stow small, personal belongings under the seat in front of you.

Fasten your seatbelt like so. Be sure to pull it tight and always have it buckled when seated.

This is wrong.

During takeoff and landing, please lock your tray up.

Also, raise your seat to it's upright position

Finally, wave goodbye to friends and family. "Goodbye now...goodbye. Buh-bye!"

Which is Harder?

I was inspired to write this after reading my brother in-laws post about his wife's birthday. People often say "Wow that must be hard" when they find out I am in dental school.............you have how many finals?.....wow that must be hard. However, when they ask what Tricia does they respond "oh she's just a mom". I have never understood that reaction. Yes, dental school is hard and many times not enjoyable. Yes, double digit finals are horrible. However, I would still rather do that than do what she does. Tricia is at her job all day. She may get a nap here or there but for the most part it's a 24/7 job. She gets up with the baby during the night except the weekends which we split. All day she watches him trying to keep him from killing himself which he seems intent on trying to do. On top of that she takes care of the house which in and off itself is a never ending job. As soon as you move on to the next room the one you just cleaned is getting dirty again. She runs errands between nap times and Dr appointments. And the next day you get up and do it again. oh yea did I mention you get absolutely no recognition with this job? It often goes without thank you and the world looks at you as if you are lazy. So here's to you babe the hard worker in the family. I am glad its you and not me.

Decking the Halls

Well, we only have one hall, and no one would see it, and it's small. So I decked the front room instead.

Our Tree

Our Mantel (Notice the Nativity set. My mom made them. They are AMAZING!! She gives us a new piece every year. I think I have 2 left.)

A close up of the wisemen

Snowtime

Recently we were in Utah and it's a tradition to drive to the Uintah Mountains to cut my family's Christmas tree. It was COLD but so fun!

Snowbaby

With aunt Maryann

Water Water Everywhere...and I try to Drink it All

This kid LOVES bathtime.

Even if it's in the sink. (I LOVE LOVE LOVE this picture!)

O' Christmas Tree!!

Admiring the tree with cousin, Kelsey. "Look at all those things I haven't tasted yet!"

Best Sleep Position

According to a 7 month old.
Wrap yourself completely from head to knees. Just enough to really panic your mother, then she'll hover over you and her nervous heavy breathing will keep you warm and it's like white noise. And finally, get your feet stuck in the crib bars.

I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas

Just a little OKC based story about one of the greatest Christmas songs!

(Hear the song)

I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas is a Christmas novelty song written by John Rox and performed by Gayla Peevey (10 years old at the time) in 1953.
Peevey was a regional child star of the Oklahoma City area. When released nationally by Columbia Records, the song shot to the top of the charts and the city zoo acquired a baby hippo named Matilda.
A popular legend holds that this 1953 hit had been recorded as a fund-raiser to bring the city zoo a hippo; but in a 2007 radio interview with Detroit-based WNIC radio station, Peevey clarified that the song was not originally recorded as a fundraiser. Instead, a local promoter picked up on the popularity of the song and Peevey's local roots, and launched a campaign to present her with an actual hippopotamus on Christmas.
The campaign succeeded, and she was presented with an actual hippopotamus, which she donated to the city zoo. The hippopotamus lived for nearly 50 years.
